What these stone sculptures mean to the artist

Welcome to this section of the website with stone sculptures created by Mari Serraris. Trained at two Arts Academies, in Arnhem and the Hague (Netherlands) for gold- and silversmithing, she turned her attention to sculpting in 1994 for more than one reason: to satisfy her drive to express her chosen subject matter, the Arche or Origins of fundamental topics in our human life, and to work with stone: the skin of our planet. Stone has been around for eons and timeless or ancient issues serve it well: birth, death, learning, reading, writing, dreams, poetry, the universe, love, our past present and future, Origins of shapes and forms, directions, natural beauty, sound, pain, connections, planets, symbols, and God.

These stone sculptures show us purity, they bear on contemplation about pure beginnings, roots. A timeless age: feeling and learning about processes, it‘s consequences and the way ahead. Feelings for stars, the universe. The beauty of the Origins of life is exemplified in these stone sculptures, it is the oldest material on earth to give testimonial value to ancient issues.
